The Supermarine Spitfire Mark XIV was one of the most powerful variants of the legendary British fighter to see action in World War II. Entering service in late 1943, it married the classic Spitfire airframe to a massive 2,050-horsepower Rolls-Royce Griffon 65 engine, easily distinguished by its elongated nose and aggressive five-bladed propeller. Boasting top speeds exceeding 440 mph and an exceptional climb rate, the Mk XIV excelled at high altitudes, where it proved crucial in intercepting German V-1 flying bombs and countering Luftwaffe fighters like the Focke-Wulf FW 190 and Me 262 jet.
